Tu Lien Kumquat Village
Tu Lien Ward, Tay Ho District, Hanoi
Kumquats are ornamental plants with green leaves, and heavy branches with bright yellow fruits, dotted with a few pure white flowers. They are a symbol of fullness and prosperity in every early spring greeting. Nowadays, with the support of science and technology and the talented hands of farmers, people have created bonsai kumquat products.
Kumquat bonsai is beautiful, polite and unique but not bulky or space-consuming. Each of the kumquat pots is a work of art, pruned in many shapes and given many names such as Long phuong van vu, Ca chep hoa rong (Carp turn into dragon), Thac do don xuan (Waterfall welcomes spring), Anh em sum vay (Brothers reunites), Luong long chau nguyet, ...
Kumquat farming also needs the ingenuity and meticulousness of the farmer in pruning the sprouts, fertilizing the roots, digging up the soil, raising the roots, and replanting in one or two days but changing places. The reputation of the ornamental kumquats here does not depend on fruitful trees but on beautiful shapes, big – yellow kumquat, and big – lush leaves.
Along with Nhat Tan and Phu Thuong peach blossom, Quang Ba and Tu Lien ornamental kumquats are “indispensable spiritual dishes” in every family when New Year comes.
