An Thọ Communal House is located in Thọ Hamlet, Yên Thái Village (Kẻ Bưởi), formerly part of Tổng Trung, Vĩnh Thuận District. Today, it stands at 528 Thụy Khuê Street, Bưởi Ward, Tây Hồ District, Hanoi. The communal house was built during the Revival Lê period to honor Vũ Phục Đại Vương, the village’s tutelary deity. The communal house faces west-northwest, overlooking the confluence of the Thiên Phù River and Tô Lịch River, a place tied to the legendary tale of Vũ Phục and his wife (Mr. and Mrs. Dầu). According to the legend, they sacrificed themselves to the water deity to save their village from devastating floods and to cure King Lý Nhân Tông's eye disease. This story reflects the ancient practice of water deity sacrifices that persisted during the Lý Dynasty. However, unlike forced sacrifices, their act was one of voluntary devotion. For their sacrifice and protection of the land, Vũ Phục and his wife were honored as the tutelary deities of the region. The people of Kẻ Bưởi, including An Thái and An Thọ villages, have worshiped them for generations.
