Introduce
Tinh Lau Pagoda, also known as Sai Pagoda, is located in the west of West Lake, in Ho Khau Village, Buoi Ward, Tay Ho District. The pagoda overlooks the West Lake. In front of the pagoda is a blue bodhi. No one planted the Bodhi tree, it self-born, grew up on the old gate of the pagoda. On the body of it still cling to the brick wall mossy style, as if to prove: Bodhi live on the temple to grow, the pagoda thanks to it to be solemn.
Tinh Lau Pagoda is like many other ancient pagodas of the village in Vietnam, the birth of the pagoda is to serve the Buddhist belief of the working people. The Vietnamese come to the Buddha and worship the Buddha, because they think that the Buddha is a great compassionate, always helping people and directing people to the good, go away from the evil. So when the heart was disturbed, they went to the pagoda to express the heart, ask for a shelter, wishing to have luck, goods happen to them.
During the resistance war against the French invaders, Ho Khau village has a great revolutionary movement. There are many hiding places for staff, including Tinh Lau Pagoda - This is also a very good hiding place, where the travel, regular contact of revolutionary cadres. The monks and nuns have participated very actively in protecting the secrets of our staff.
The temple was built in a beautiful area, close to the West Lake, the relics have witnessed many changes of West Lake. The pagoda was built in Le dynasty. This was evidenced by the ancient stone inscriptions dating from 1793 which records the restoration of the pagoda and the bronze bell dating in 1799. In particular, the temple was built with bricks made in the 15th - 16th centuries.
The three-arched-gates entrance of the pagoda is a new construction built by the efforts of the local people and monks. Although it is a new construction, but architecture retains the traditional style is both magnificent and elegant. Three-arched-entrances is more solemn with horizontal lacquered boards and meaningful couplets:
“Tĩnh lý nghênh nhân đăng giác ngạn
Lâu trung tống khách nhập huyền môn.”

The couplet mentions the temple's name as "Tĩnh Lâu" and expresses the Buddha's principle of "tự giác giác tha " - the teaching of self-discipline and compassion for oneself and others. It also reflects the compassionate and selfless attitude of the resident monks at the temple, who always show kindness and care towards the Buddhist followers and all beings.
Through the three-arched-gates entrance to the pagoda yard is a beautiful garden. Especially there are hundreds of years old trees, reaching straight into the sky as a spare tree.
Around the pagoda is a fruit garden, which always makes the pagoda quiet and solemn.
Tinh Lau pagoda is a pagoda belonging to the Lam Te part of Zen lineage, which still preserves many valuable artifacts such as 41 large statues, 01 bronze bell from 1799, The earliest tablet dating back to 1793, while the oldest tablet dating back to the 17th year of Bao Dai (1942), 6 wooden logs, 17 wooden parallel sentences. In addition, there are many different worship items such as lamp, candle, medicine, hammock door, made the pagoda a magnificent, majestic place.
Tinh Lau Pagoda is an ancient temple with a long history of construction. To date, the relics have brought in a history of over two hundred years. Experiencing the ups and downs of history, the ruins of the sunshine of the time, the temple is still standing permanently standing in a landscape, a spacious space, the structure is still fundamental. To preserve the status quo, such as the main pagoda, the pagoda (in 2016, the house was burnt down by electricity accident), the Mau house, guest house, garden, a complete Buddhist architecture, a prototype structure of an ancient temple of Vietnamese villages.
Beside these values, the relic of Tinh Lau Pagoda along with West Lake is also a famous place of Thang Long - Dong Do - Hanoi, a unique cultural capital of thousand years. Located right next to the West Lake, a dreamlike skyline, Tinh Lau pagoda has emerged as a flower full of flavor, a highlight of the cultural West Lake.
The temple is classified by the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) Decision No. 1460-QD / VH dated June 28, 1996./.
