Introduce
In the fifteenth century, on the bank of the West Lake in the southeast, there was a building called Chau Lam - the residence of Chiem Thanh, next to Chau Lam Pagoda (as known as Ba Danh pagoda) for Chiem people to perform religious beliefs.
In 1893, a French established a printing house named Schneide in a place known as "Phoenix beak", they also built a big house for the owner of the printing house. In 1907, people moved the printing house to take this place to build a school with the second largest scale in Indochina.
On December 9, 1908, the Governor General of Indochina issued a decree to establish the Lycée du Protectorat (Thanh Chung) on the basis of the merger of the Hanoi Interpretation School and Thanh Chung Nam Dinh. Initially, the school had both primary and secondary schools. In 1931, it became a high school. The name of the school has somewhat expressed the intention of the French, but the people of Hanoi do not call that name. The school was called Buoi school because it was near the Buoi area.
Buoi school was built in the northern part of our country in the style of French architecture. After over 100 years of existence, the school still retains the majestic look of ancient West Lake. In the education of Vietnam, this school has a long history and has contributed to training a lot of great personalities, historians, revolutionaries, intellecturals. In the period before the August Revolution in 1945, there were many important historical events associated with the modern history of the nation. There may be some typical movements of students such as: Movement responds to the movement of East Kinh; Movement to mourn the patriotic dissident Phan Chu Trinh in 1926; Movement for the Popular Front of France in 1936; Movement of national script in 1938; The Hunger Rescue Movement, joining the National Salvation Army in the Viet Minh Front in 1943-1944-1945. In addition, many students of Buoi School later become professional revolutionaries, sacrificing their youth for the cause of national liberation for the happiness of the people, among them, must mention about Ha Huy Tap, Ngo Gia Tu, Nguyen Van Cu, Do Ngoc Du, and many teachers, students of the school later became senior leaders of the Party and among them are Prime Minister Pham Van Dong, General Vo Nguyen Giap, Trinh Dinh Cuu, Professor Ton That Tung, writer Nguyen Cong Hoan, painter Phan Chanh, poet Xuan Dieu and many generals, the leading scientists of the country.... Among the typical students of Chu Van An School are Dr. Dang Thuy Tram and Martyrs, Air Force Hero Vu Van Thieu; There are also two students of Buoi School who later became leaders of the Lao revolution, namely: Kaysone Phomvihane - General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Souphanouvong - Prince, President of the People's Democratic Republic Laos.
For the above reasons, Chu Van An highschool school has been classified by the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism) Decision is classified as Historical - cultural relics according to Decision No. 76 / 2004 / QĐ-BVHTT dated 23/8/2004.
Over the years, the Buoi School is now Chu Van An highschool still retain many features of the look of the old Buoi school. Chu Van An School is located on a pretty large area near the West Lake in the area of over 42,000m2, the school has been assigned by the City People's Committee to the Department of Education and Training to build high quality Chu Van An high school. High quality Chu Van An High School is located in the prime location, the front side overlooking Thuy Khue, the right side is the West Lake, with a system of ancient trees and shades, clean environment and quiet which is very suitable for pedagogical landscape. The architectural works of the school include: octagonal house (home office) - is the workplace of the school management board, the blocks A, B, C are the teaching and learning rooms that are the works of French construction remain to this day. There are also other buildings that will be built later: gymnasiums, stadiums.
The octagonal house is located close to West Lake separated from the blocks A, B, C of the campus. This construction was previously used as a place of residence and work for the principal, and is now the workplace of the principal and the school's traditional exhibitor. The octagonal house consists of hexagonal and rectangular facades interwoven together and higher than two floors and a window half under and half above the ground. The first floor of the building consists of two rectangular rooms, an octagonal room, a hexagonal room and a staircase hallway that joins the walkway. To enter the house there are three auxiliary ways and one main way. The main access to the house through the large hallway is the car drive up and down from both sides. From the main entrance leading into the octagonal room there are 7 walls with wide windows. Corresponding to the main entrance on either side is the gate connecting a corridor in the width of nearly 2m. Large octagonal room with large balcony doors on the outside, from this balcony can look over the entire West Lake space. The second floor of the octagonal house also has a similar layout as the first floor, only the octagonal room is replaced by a yard with doors. From the position of this yard, we can see that it is for viewing West Lake from above. The exterior of the octagonal house is decorated with elaborate art, the facades are decorated with embossed reliefs made of plaster with straw. Most noteworthy is the image of western girls with beautiful faces, smiling, which are placed between the door molds and doors to make the old house lively.
It can be said that the octagonal house is the most outstanding ancient architectural style in French style. It has a very balanced, harmonious, high architectural value art adjacent to the surface of the West Lake. The pedagogical scene for the school is named after the great teacher Chu Van An.
Two three-storey buildings A and B built in the French era, including 36 rooms for classrooms which are spacious, wide corridors, high ceilings and lighting system and full fan system. For classes overlooking the West Lake, the stairs are made of ironwood. The lower level of A is the on-campus office, next to the international reception and computer room and multimedia system.
The one-storey block of C consists of four beautiful and spacious classrooms that have been recently refurbished.
The spacious and cool campus with the old trees system creates the unique pedagogical environment, under the old trees are the stone chairs and cement chairs of the former students donated to the school for students, teachers to use.
The school's facilities are quite comprehensive, including physics, chemistry, biology, practice workshops, forging, cooling, carpentry, plantation, the stadium, the rain shelter, the dining room, the boarding house, the garage ... all of them are orderly and clean. It can be said that the pedagogical scene of Chu Van An High School is one of the most beautiful schools in the country.
Like other agencies throughout the country, the Buoi School - Chu Van An highschool is also dominated by the resistance of the nation. After the successful August Revolution of 1945, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was established by President Ho Chi Minh, Buu Luong School was renamed to Chu Van An School and Prof. Duong Quang Ham was appointed as the Principle of Chu Van An High School. However, since the independence of our country has not existed so long, the French colonialists returned to invade our country. On December 19, 1946, the national resistance bloomed, in those years the school had to evacuate. Still, good teaching and learning. The Hanoi period was temporarily occupied, in the end of 1947 Chu Van An opened again. Chu Van An students joined the resistance group in Hanoi, secret activities: throwing leaflets, printing newspapers, propaganda against enemy soldiers... Some has been brutally torture at Hoa Lo prison.
After the liberation of the capital on October 10, 1954, Chu Van An school moved from Cua Bac to Thuy Hong. After stabilizing, the school organized the activities of emulation study, labor, and making a bulletin, organizing students to parade to protest march to Uncle Ho in the capital. The school organized activities actively mobilizing thousands of students on Sunday to clean Thanh Nien road, participate in an anti-typhoon in 1956, Mai Lam dyke rescue, organize the popular movement education, delete Illiteracy, etc. The activities of the Chu Van An school board are one of the strongest at the time.
In the years of the war against the United States, Chu Van An School has repeatedly changed the evacuation site: Dong Tao Village, Tien Tien Commune, Khoai Chau District, Hung Yen Province, then to My Duc, Thanh Oai, Ha Tay. Overcoming the difficulties of the American war: The students of the school still maintain good teaching, good learning; Many students have enlisted in the army, they are pilots, gunners, soldiers in the battlefield of Truong Son, fighting to help liberate the unified South of the country. Among them, many students of the school bravely fought and sacrificed their youth for the cause of national liberation, for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland and for the happiness of the people, of the number of years That first mention of the doctor, hero of armed forces Dang Thuy Tram (born in 1942) is a 1958 student who served in the battlefield Quang Ngai, heroic sacrifice on June 22, 1970 and heroes Pilot Vu Xuan Thieu (born in 1945) made many feats to protect the skies of the capital and bravely sacrificed in 1972 when the suicide bomber crashed into the B52 aircraft of the United States Air Force.

To carry out the loving teachings of beloved Uncle Ho, the love of the Party and the Nation, teachers of Buoi School (Chu Van An) always strive to emulate good teaching and learning. For many years, Chu Van An has been an advanced and excellent unit, the party cell is a strong and clean Party foundation, the union and the youth union are always one of the leading units in the competition of the capital education. In the school year 2009-2010, the school was the flagship unit of the high schools in Hanoi.
Chu Van An School has a team of enthusiastic teachers, and great knowledge teaching has fostered patriotism for the younger generation of students. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Huyen (Minister of Education), Professor Duong Quang Ham are the first Vietnamese principals whose works are in French: Lessons on Vietnamese history for French schools. Professor Hoang Xuan Han is both a professor of mathematics and history. During the resistance period, there were academicians, Deputy Minister of Education Nguyen Khanh Toan taught history of Vietnam. It is rare for any school in our country to have the honor, fortunately Chu Van An school taught by such famous teachers have a great influence on the generations of students from this school roof. Many of them are leaders of the government, such as the late Prime Minister Pham Van Dong, the late Foreign Minister Nguyen Co Thach, etc. Many of them have become social activists, scientists and artists.
