Võng Thị Pagoda, located in Bưởi Ward, is officially named Vĩnh Khánh Pagoda. It stands adjacent to Võng Thị Communal House, overlooking the serene waters of West Lake. Situated in the heart of this famous scenic area, Võng Thị Pagoda has long been regarded as an ancient and sacred site. According to historical records, Võng Thị Pagoda has been revered for centuries: "Though this pagoda lacks towering pavilions or lavish gold and jade embellishments, its proximity to West Lake, where birds soar and fish swim freely, lends it a tranquil charm. The surrounding mounds and sandy banks stretch endlessly, while the sky and clouds cast shimmering reflections upon the water. This landscape inspires not only deep reverence but also a sense of peace beneath the canopy of ancient trees, their lush foliage mirrored in the lake’s silvery expanse. Here, one may hear the distant chime of temple bells resonating across the water, stirring the moonlit waves and cleansing the soul of worldly burdens. If not quite Nirvana, then surely it is a realm akin to Tushita Heaven. Indeed, this is one of the most sacred and magnificent sites of Thăng Long."
Legend has it that the pagoda was originally built during the Lý dynasty. Over the centuries, it has undergone multiple renovations, the most significant of which was recorded in a stele inscription from the Thành Thái era (1901, Tân Sửu year). The inscription states: "Before the Mậu Thìn year of the Gia Long era (1808), the pagoda consisted of only a single main hall with three compartments arranged lengthwise, connected to a five-compartment front hall positioned crosswise. The roof was tiled, and the structure faced westward. Since then, the prosperity of the village has waned, and recent storms have further damaged the wooden beams and roof tiles. Thus, the faithful gathered and resolved to restore the pagoda to its former state."
