Lăng Temple is a spiritual relic located in the residential area Cluster 1, Group 10, Xuân La Ward, Tây Hồ District, Hanoi. Initially, the locals referred to it as Lăng Shrine (Miếu Lăng) rather than a temple, as it was initially a small shrine dedicated to worshipping the main god in the village. Inside the temple grounds is a mausoleum built according to the "Tiền Miếu – Hậu Lăng” (Shrine in Front – Tomb in the Back) model. Over time, the architectural scale of the shrine expanded, and the local people began calling it Lăng Temple. Do trong đền thờ vị quan được tôn gọi là quan Trấn Đông nên đền còn có tên gọi khác là đền quan Trấn Đông hay đền Trấn Đông.Because the temple worships a Quan Trấn Đông (Governor of the Eastern Region), it is also referred to as Quan Trấn Đông Temple or Trấn Đông Temple.
This temple worships a historical figure who lived during the tumultuous period of the late Lê Dynasty and early Tây Sơn Dynasty. The locals respectfully called him Quan Trấn Đông.
There are still two different opinions regarding the origin of the god being worshipped in the temple. According to folklore and historical research, the temple venerates Phương Đình Pháp, a military official serving under King Lê Hiển Tông (1740–1786). However, Based on an ancient Chinese character eulogy preserved in the temple affirms that the god worshipped in the temple is Nguyễn Ủy Hinh - a high-ranking official who supported the Later Lê Dynasty. He attained the Tạo Sĩ title (an elite rank in military examinations during the Lê Trung Hưng period), was responsible for overseeing the mausoleum and contributed to keeping the four directions of East, West, South, and North peaceful.
Through research and study, historians and researchers such as History Professor Phan Huy Lê and the late Hanoi scholar Nguyễn Vinh Phúc have supported the theory that Lăng Temple venerates General Phương Đình Pháp.
